LARC! Paradise Tour

20 hours
from $179 per person
An amphibious adventure for all ages! A fun filled day trip along north of the Town of 1770 to the Bustard Head Lightstation. Guided tour inside the lighthouse tower, morning tea, lunch and the thrill of sandboarding are all included.
This full day LARC tour will take you on a journey into history and over vast sandy beaches and crystal clear waters north of the Town of 1770. With National Parks to the left and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park to the right, the amphibious vessel traverses four tidal creeks, to arrive at a scenic and shaded picnic area for a morning tea of cake, biscuits, fresh fruit and cold refreshments. The LARC then continues the picturesque 4WD journey up Bustard Headland to the Bustard Head Lightstation - Queensland's first coastal lighthouse, standing 19 metres tall. The cast iron lighthouse tower was built in 1868 and automated in 1986, and in 2013 became Queensland's only operating lighthouse open for tours inside. Upon arrival at the lightstation you can climb the original stairs to the balcony of the lighthouse and hear tales of triumph and turmoil from our experienced guides. Absorb the history inside the tower and the restored head light-keepers cottage, while sharing an interpretative dialogue about the large collection of lighthouse artefacts within. Just beyond the lighthouse is a short winding path leading to a quaint and well tended graveyard, peacefully nestled in beautiful bush surroundings.  The panoramic views of Bustard Bay and its pristine surroundings will have you in awe. Morning tea, picnic lunch, cold drinks and billy tea or coffee brewed over an open campfire are included in your day tour. The 35 metre sand dunes of Middle Island are an ideal location for sandboarding fun, so the amphibian will deliver you to the base and our guides will provide a lesson, before sending you up the dune and setting you free to glide down! You can choose to stay dry or if you're feeling a little more adventurous why not skim right off the dunes splashing and skipping across the tidal water. If you would prefer not to participate, sandboarding is a great spectator sport.  As you are transported back to the 1770 Marina in true beach buggy style, you can soak up the picturesque colours of the sky and the wildlife in the shallows and in the coastal bush. Join us for this 7 hour guided tour of LARCing fun!
